1. Intelligent choice. Human beings are the most intelligent of all creations and are uniquely and inherently free to choose. They yield influence only to others they trust to ensure life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, and repulse deceit, coercion, force, or offensive character that invade their power to choose and act.
2. Limited power. The diverse applications of individual moral agency cause all assertions to be affected by the choices of others. No one person or group can unilaterally dictate what happens; no one person or combination of people can unilaterally and completely restrain what happens. Contending choices cause that most actions are conservative adjustments, marginal and successive. Collective action is purposeful and sometimes transforming in direction and pace as leaders and allies combine interests and resources for achieving envisioned outcomes.

3. Diverse gifts. Human beings are naturally endowed with individual gifts available for the milieu of human aspirations. The potency of the collection of gifts and resources within any assortment of people is magnified with the influence of leaders and their allies. Leadership is the force that transforms diversity into the power of common vision and shared strategy so that all allies may prevail with some of what they seek.
4. Honorable influence. Leadership is good and honorable power, existing only as an empirical reality based on intended results. Leadership is not dependent on titles, ground-breaking ideas, image, legal authority, or commotion. However, leadership might employ available legal rights, stature, resources, and relationships to harvest pooled personal power and influence shared by allies to spawn change, provide direction, erect structure, and to reduce confusion, conflict, and ambiguity.
5. Behavior in context. Human behavior is shaped, in part, by external influences. Responses to leaders and change experiences are affected by co-workers, family and friends, as well as by prevailing norms, social constraints, rules, policy, technology, resources, professional standards, education and training, authority, and rewards or punishments. Each person has a distinct set of influences that impinges on leading, training, and developing.

Leading may be the most complex and creative of all human behaviors, and the most elegant of all art forms. No leadership acts, simple or massive, are identical; each is unique, created anew from within real lives, situations, and dreams.
Leadership emerges when someone takes initiative and others choose to follow, when they grasp a simple idea or grand vision, and move forward to obtain some results in association with other players. When we understand leadership and human behavior properly we will be more able to identify, educate, coach, and nurture future leaders to exercise good and honorable influence more powerfully in our midst.
The failure or absence of leadership is perpetuated in brute force, blind ambition, selfishness, deception, hatred, sensuousness, terrorism, and violence; chronicled throughout history as human devastation. To find and develop good and honorable leaders is an urgent necessity of every human society, institution and enterprise.

The resources and propositions underlying the theory have been used in consulting and programs for high potential leaders in various parts of the world, including with the corporate world of North America, developed governments, primitive societies and tribes, the White House, all Federal departments, and national and international institutions and associations.
